The reason that we are able to offer the
MV-1000
software at such an affordable price is because we have chosen to
use a hardware solution that is already on the market for our speaking solution. We
have determined that the most affordable way to offer a
quality product at an affordable price was for us to combine our
easy-to-use speaking software with existing technology to bring our
solution into your home, school, or workplace. That is why we
began using Palm handheld
devices for our hardware platform.
In addition to the lower initial cost that our
solution provides, there are no hidden costs that you need to be
concerned with. We will not try to sell you an annual service agreement
or maintenance program. In fact, we do not even offer them.
With Digital Voice Technologies and the
MV-1000
solution, if your communication device is lost or broken, you would
be able to replace the hardware for as little as $199 (assuming that
you were using a Tungsten E2
handheld). You would then be able to simply restore the
MV-1000 software from
the backup on your PC (see HotSync questions above). This
whole process can be completed in a matter of hours, not weeks or
months.
The hardware (in this case the Palm Tungsten E2) is
so inexpensive, that you would need to either lose or break your
device a few times in a year before you would reach the cost of a
typical service plan.
The MV-1000 software has hundreds of pictures to choose from.
If your child has never used an augmentative and alternative
communication device before, we recommend starting slowly.
Pick just a few (no more than 10 to 15) pictures to start with.
Let your child get used to the pictures and where they are located.
As your child becomes comfortable using the available pictures, slowly
add pictures until you reach the point where you feel that you are
using the desired number of pictures for your child's individual
needs. This maximum will depend both on your child's abilities
and whether you are using your device as a quick portable solution
or a more comprehensive at-home solution.
In addition to being able to include the pictures that make the
most sense for your child, you can also choose the order in which
the pictures are displayed. We recommend that you move the most
frequently used pictures to the top of the list to make them more
accessible to your child.
